Holzminden is a small town on the Weser river in Lower Saxony, and like hundreds of German municipalities it issued its own notgeld during the inflationary chaos of the early 1920s when the Reichsbank could not keep fractional currency in circulation. The Stadt Holzminden series was printed by Gebrüder Jänecke of Hannover, a well-established commercial printing house with a long history of quality work — not one of the fly-by-night operations that produced much of the shoddier provincial notgeld of the period.
The DeNG reference places this at the 3/3 print state, indicating a third variant within the series — worth distinguishing from earlier states when cataloging multiples.
