| Reverse description | The reverse is dominated by a colourful multicolour lithographic vignette signed by the artist 'Dens', portraying a lively beach scene at Wenningstedt on the island of Sylt: bathers and promenaders in early twentieth-century dress are gathered on the sandy shore, with green bathing cabins and a row of German Imperial flags on tall poles in the middle ground, the North Sea and dunes visible beyond. The inscription '★ Zwei Mark Gutschein ★' appears in Gothic blackletter across the upper border, and '★ Strand bei Wenningstedt auf Sylt ★' across the lower border, with the printer's imprint 'FRIEDRICH BALL, WESTERLAND-SYLT.' in small letterpress beneath. |
