| Obverse description | Cream-toned notgeld printed in dark red on a fine guilloche underprint. The issuer's name 'Stadt Frankfurt a. M.' is set in bold blackletter type across the upper field, flanked by the numeral '2' and 'Mark' at each corner. A large central cartouche carries the denomination 'Zwei Mark' in ornate gothic script with decorative scrollwork borders above and below. In the lower portion, the city's heraldic eagle vignette appears centrally between a redemption clause at left and the date and magistrate's facsimile signatures at right, the whole enclosed within a decorative border of repeated rosette and guilloche elements. |
