| Obverse description | Central shield bearing a four-fold coat of arms, surmounted by a princely crown, with the denomination numeral '2' to the right of the shield. The motto of the Order of the Garter, 'HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE', encircles the shield, reflecting Ernest August II's membership in this order. The mintmaster's initials appear in the lower field. The overall design is characteristic of early eighteenth-century German ecclesiastical coinage. |
