Obverse description Central field displays a Gothic castle with three towers set within a quatre-foil (quadrilobe) frame, the central tower being the tallest and flanked by two smaller battlemented towers, all rendered in fine Gothic style typical of 14th-century Castilian coinage. The castle device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which runs the circular legend in Gothic lettering. The overall composition is characteristic of the heraldic castle of Castile as used under King Pedro I.
