Obverse lettering PHILIPPUS IIII D G
(Translation: Philip IV by the grace of God)
Reverse description A crowned heraldic lion passant within a shield occupies the central field, flanked to the left by the assayer's initial and to the right by the Roman numeral value II. The Madrid mintmark 'M' appears below the shield. A circular Latin legend enclosing the date runs around the periphery within a beaded border, identifying the king as ruler of the Spains. The design is compact and typical of the small-module 2 Maravedis series struck at the Puerta de Alcalá mint.
