Obverse description Draped bust of Artemis Soteira facing right, depicted with hair arranged in a knot at the nape; she wears a triple-pendant earring and a beaded necklace, with a quiver visible over her shoulder and a garment draped across her shoulders. The epithet legend ΣΩΤΕΙΡΑ (Savior) appears in the field, identifying the goddess in her protective aspect. The portrait is rendered in the refined Hellenistic style characteristic of late Syracusan coinage.

Reverse description A large winged thunderbolt rendered in bold relief at the center of the field, its wings spread symmetrically to either side with detailed feathering, and lightning volutes extending from each end of the central shaft. The civic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ (of the Syracusans) is distributed in two lines around the device, with ΣΥΡΑΚ above and ΟΣΙΩΝ below. The bold, radiating composition of the thunderbolt fills the flan effectively, emphasizing the divine authority of the issuing city.
