Luigi Preziosi served as Malta's first Governor-General following independence in 1964, a largely ceremonial appointment that nonetheless carried symbolic weight during the island's transition from British colonial rule. This 1977 piece is a pattern — struck for submission or approval purposes, never released into circulation — placing it outside the regular commemorative program Malta was actively developing through the mid-1970s under its agreements with the Franklin Mint.
Pattern survivorship from this series is poorly documented, and confirmed examples rarely surface through major auction houses.
