The Baroque gateway, constructed in 1724, is depicted in full frontal elevation showing its rusticated stonework, flanking pilasters, carved ornamentation, and central arched passageway. The Maltese pound denomination symbol £M appears to the lower left and the numeral 2 to the lower right of the gate, with the word SPECIMEN inscribed vertically at right. The legend IL-BIEB TA'L-IMDINA curves along the upper rim, and the date 1973 is placed in the lower exergue. |
