Obverse description The obverse features the Maltese coat of arms prominently centered in the field, depicting a vertically striped shield charged with the George Cross, flanked by two rampant sea-horses, with an olive branch and a palm frond forming a wreath below. The shield is surmounted by a mural crown. A ribbon scroll at the base of the arms bears the Latin motto VIRTUTE ET CONSTANTIA. The country name MALTA is inscribed in large capital letters along the lower periphery of the coin.
