Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Victor Emmanuel II facing right, rendered in high relief with fine detailing to the hair and full beard. The king's effigy is depicted in a classical style without drapery or ornamental accessories. The circular legend VITTORIO EMANUELE II arcs around the upper periphery, interrupted by the portrait, with the roman numeral II positioned to the lower right. The date 1859 appears in the exergue below the truncation, within a toothed border.

Reverse description Central device consisting of the crowned Shield of Savoy arms displayed upright, encircled by the collar of the Order of the Annunciation, from which a laurel and oak wreath is suspended, framing the lower and lateral portions of the shield. The legend DIO PROTEGGE L'ITALIA arcs along the upper periphery. The denomination L · 2 appears in the lower field beneath the shield, with the mint name BOLOGNA inscribed at the lower right within the toothed border.
