Reverse description The reverse depicts a full-length standing figure of Fortitudo (Fortitude) rendered in classical style, clad in armour with a plumed helmet, holding a sceptre in her right hand, with a recumbent lion at her feet to the right. The denomination L·2 appears to the left of the figure and the date 1957 to the right, with the inscription PROVA Ag.986 below the denomination indicating the trial striking and silver fineness. The legend CITTA DEL VATICANO curves along the upper periphery, and the motto FORTITVDO is inscribed on a raised tablet along the lower rim. The overall composition reflects the neoclassical engraving tradition of the Rome Mint during the pontificate of Pius XII.
