Dago Village Social Club scrip from 1945 almost certainly originated in one of the internment camps established in the Dutch East Indies under Japanese occupation, where "Dago" refers to the Bandung suburb used as a civilian internment site. Camp-issued scrip of this type was a locally improvised solution — printed or handwritten by internees or administrators to manage internal canteen economies and reduce the risks of black-market cash trading within the wire.
Paper scrip from these camps survives in tiny quantities. Most was voided, destroyed, or simply discarded at liberation.
