| Additional information |
Zlatyu Boyadzhiev (1903–1976) was a Bulgarian painter whose career took a dramatic turn in 1951 when a stroke paralyzed his right hand. He taught himself to paint with his left, and critics generally consider the post-stroke work more expressive than anything he produced before. This coin was issued as part of Bulgaria's long-running commemorative program honoring national cultural figures.
