Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King George I facing left, rendered in fine relief in the neoclassical style of engraver Désiré-Albert Barre, whose surname BARRE appears incuse in small letters below the truncation. The circumferential legend in Greek majuscules reads ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ, meaning 'George I King of the Greeks,' distributed around the upper and lateral fields. The date 1869 is prominently placed in the lower exergue area. The entire design is bordered by a tightly spaced inner beaded ring.
