| Reverse description | The reverse presents the large numeral '2' at center in a bold, raised typeface, with the denomination legend BUN PENTRU arcing across the upper field and LEI inscribed below the numeral. A wreath composed of wheat ears rises symmetrically from the base, framing the central denomination on either side and tied at the bottom. The field is otherwise plain, and a beaded border defines the rim. |

Romania's 1924 coinage program was complicated by the government's decision to ultimately produce the circulating 2 Lei in nickel rather than silver — a cost-driven choice made as postwar inflation continued eroding the leu's purchasing power. This piece, catalogued as a pattern, was part of the evaluation process that preceded that decision. The National Bank commissioned trial strikes in multiple metals before settling on the cheaper alloy for general release.
Pattern survivors in silver are encountered infrequently, most having remained in institutional or ministry hands rather than entering commerce.
