Romania's postwar coinage overhaul came slowly. The 1924 issues, including this 2 Lei, were struck at the Poissy mint in France — Romania lacked the domestic capacity to meet demand after the disruptions of the First World War and the subsequent territorial reorganization that nearly doubled the country's size. Poissy strikes carry a small thunderbolt privy mark, a detail that distinguishes them from later domestic production.
