Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Carol I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a full beard, occupying the central field. The circumferential legend reads CAROL • I • REGE • AL • ROMANIEI, separated by raised dots and framed by an inner beaded border. The engraver's signature TASSET appears incuse at the base of the portrait, just above the lower beaded border.
