Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Prince Carol I facing right, with short hair and a prominent moustache with chin beard, rendered in finely modelled high relief. The engraver's signature WYON appears in small capitals below the truncation. The circumferential Latin legend CAROL I DOMNU AL ROMANILOR. runs along the upper periphery, separated from the effigy by a plain field. The design is framed by an inner beaded border.

Reverse description Central field displays the denomination 2 LEI in two lines within an open wreath composed of an olive branch on the left and an oak branch on the right, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The country name ROMANIA arcs across the upper portion of the field, and the date 1869 is placed in the lower exergual area between the wreath ends. The entire design is enclosed by an inner beaded border.
