Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Prince Carol I within a beaded border. The engraver's name KULLRICH appears beneath the neck truncation. The circular legend CAROL I DOMNUL ROMANIEI runs along the periphery in Latin script, identifying the ruler as Prince of Romania. The portrait is rendered in a refined neoclassical style characteristic of mid-19th-century European coinage.

Reverse description The crowned and draped coat of arms of Romania occupies the central field, flanked by decorative supports. The Latin motto NIHIL SINE DEO (Nothing Without God) appears on a ribbon below the shield. The denomination 2 LEI is inscribed across the lower field, with the date 1881, the issuing authority ROMANIA, and the Vienna mint mark V arranged around the design. A beaded border frames the entire reverse.
