Obverse description Central field depicts a Socialist agrarian and industrial allegory composed of a sheaf of wheat, an ear of maize, and a sunflower arranged upright, flanked by an oil derrick to the left and agricultural implements to the right, all set against a mountain landscape in the lower field. The design conveys the ideological imagery of the Romanian People's Republic, combining industrial and agricultural motifs in a unified composition. The circular legend REPUBLICA POPULARA ROMANA runs along the upper periphery in incuse Latin lettering, framed by a plain raised rim.

Additional information

Romania's postwar monetary reforms were still settling when these pieces were struck. The 1947 abolition of the monarchy and proclamation of the People's Republic triggered a currency overhaul that gutted savings accounts and redenominated the leu at punishing rates — ordinary Romanians lost most of their accumulated wealth almost overnight. The aluminium coinage that followed was deliberately cheap to produce, reflecting both Soviet-influenced austerity policy and a near-total collapse of the country's pre-war industrial capacity.

The shift from the KM#79 copper-zinc composition to this aluminium variant mid-run is the detail worth noting for type collectors.
