The "Bodu" (large) lari circulated across the Indian Ocean trade networks that connected the Maldives to the Persian Gulf, the Malabar Coast, and beyond — the islands' cowrie and lari currencies were recognized tender far outside the archipelago itself. Hasan Nooraddeen I ruled twice, with his first reign interrupted by deposition; this issue falls within his second period on the throne. The placement of the regnal year in the fourth line of the inscription is the precise detail that separates KM#30.3 from the otherwise near-identical variants in this series.
