Obverse description Central field bears the elaborate calligraphic toughra of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, the imperial monogram executed in the traditional Ottoman style. The honorific epithet 'el-Ghazi' (the Victorious) appears to the right of the toughra in Arabic script, while the regnal year appears in Arabic numerals below. The design is enclosed within a reeded border. Note: varieties exist in the size of the date and toughra.
