Issued to mark the 300th anniversary of Gustav II Adolf's death at the Battle of Lützen in November 1632, where the Swedish king was killed during a cavalry charge in heavy morning fog — the exact circumstances of his death, including whether he was shot at close range by enemy soldiers or caught in Swedish crossfire, remain disputed by historians. Sweden was at the height of its imperial power when he died; the loss effectively ended his personal command of the Thirty Years' War campaign, though Swedish forces went on to win the battle itself.
