Vestre Eina Provianteringsråd was a local provisioning council — one of hundreds established across Norway during and immediately after the First World War to manage food rationing under the national proviantering system. These councils had authority to issue their own small-denomination token notes to facilitate local trade when coin shortages and distribution bottlenecks made ordinary commerce difficult. By 1919 the war was over, but the disruptions to Norwegian supply chains persisted, and many councils continued issuing scrip well into the year before the central authorities wound down the program.
Vestre Eina is a small rural district in Innlandet. Notes from this particular council are uncommon in any condition — low original print runs and negligible collector attention for most of the twentieth century account for that.
