| Obverse description | Full-length crowned effigy of King Christian IV facing three-quarters to the right, attired in elaborate armour with a ruffled collar and royal mantle, holding a sceptre in his right hand and a globus cruciger in his left. The Roman numeral IIII appears beneath the king's feet, denoting his regnal number. The entire design is enclosed within an inner beaded border, with the circular Latin legend distributed around the periphery reading CHRISTIANVS • IIII • D : G : DANIÆ, attesting to his divine right as King of Denmark. The hammered flan and high-relief portraiture are characteristic of early seventeenth-century Danish coinage. |
