Obverse description The city arms of Konstanz — a stepped cross within a quartered shield — displayed centrally within an ornate quatrefoil frame, itself enclosed by a beaded inner border. The circular legend surrounding the design reads MON : NO : CIVI : CONSTANC, identifying this as a new coinage of the city of Constance. The shield is rendered in a Gothic style typical of late 16th-century south German municipal coinage. Pellet stops separate the abbreviated legend elements.
