Obverse description Within a raised inner circle, the crowned pine cone — the civic arms of Augsburg — is depicted centrally on a decorative base, with the date 16-37 divided to either side of the device. The pine cone, rendered with a crosshatched scale pattern, is surmounted by a small crown. The circular Latin legend AVGVSTA VINDELICORVM runs around the periphery, separated from the inner circle by a beaded border. The overall composition is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German municipal coinage.
