Obverse description Quartered coat of arms of Trier and Schönenberg within a reeded inner circle, with the two-digit year date divided across the field on either side of the shield. The surrounding legend names the issuing archbishop in abbreviated Latin. The shield displays the heraldic arms of the see of Trier impaled with those of the Schönenberg family. The design is characteristic of the hammered coinage of the late sixteenth-century Rhenish ecclesiastical mints.
