Obverse description Central field displays the arms of Fribourg — a quartered shield bearing a latticed or cross-hatched pattern — set within a raised inner circle. The heraldic shield is rendered in a baroque cartouche style with scrolled ornamentation at the upper corners. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, reading MONETA REIPUB · FRIBURGENSIS*, identifying the coin as currency of the Republic of Fribourg. The coin's edge shows a reeded border.

Reverse description Central field features an elaborate floriated cross with fleur-de-lis terminals, the four angles of the cross each filled with foliate scrollwork and small five-petalled blossoms, all contained within a raised inner circle. The date appears in the lower segment of the legend, between the inner circle and the outer border, reading 1789. A circular Latin legend surrounding the inner circle invokes the city's patron saint, reading SANCTUS * NICOLAUS * 1789 *. The reeded edge of the coin is visible at the rim.
