| Reverse description | The reverse presents the numeral '2' in large, bold relief at the upper field, below which the Cyrillic denomination КОПЕЙКИ is inscribed in a broad, evenly spaced serif legend across the centre of the field. A horizontal line divides the denomination from the date 1797, which appears in large numerals in the lower field. The design is austere and unadorned, relying on clear typographic hierarchy to convey value and date, consistent with the reformed coinage style introduced at the outset of Pavel I's reign. The rim is defined by the same uniform milled border as the obverse. |

Novodels of Pavel I copper are a distinct category — struck not for circulation but for collectors and diplomatic presentation, almost certainly after the fact using original or recut dies. Pavel's reign lasted just four years before his murder in 1801, and his coinage reform of 1796–1797 was itself a reversal of his mother Catherine II's policies, recalling her lightweight copper issues and restoring heavier weight standards. The novodel exists precisely because the originals were too mundane to survive in presentable condition.
