| Obverse description | At centre, a vignette of a Raggiana Bird of Paradise in flight is set over an intricate traditional multicolour underprint, with a ceremonial spear at left and a carved hourglass-shaped kundu drum at centre-right. The denomination numeral '2' appears at upper left within an ornate indigenous scroll-work border, while the Bank of Papua New Guinea emblem in a circular seal is positioned at lower left. The overall design integrates Melanesian cultural motifs rendered in fine intaglio line work. |

Papua New Guinea's 1995 commemorative issue marked two decades since independence from Australian administration in September 1975. Note Printing Australia had been producing polymer notes since the Reserve Bank of Australia's pioneering 1988 bicentennial $10, and PNG was among the early adopters of the substrate for circulating commemoratives — practical for a tropical climate where conventional cotton-paper notes deteriorate rapidly in humidity and handling.
Pick 15 circulated alongside the standard polymer 2 Kina series, not as a collector-only piece.
