Papua New Guinea was among the earlier adopters of polymer substrate for its circulating currency, following the switch from paper that Note Printing Australia had already facilitated for several Pacific nations. The 2 Kina P#28 spans a signature period that bridges two governorships — Loi Bakani replacing Wilson Kamit as Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea in 2009, which is why the 2013 and 2014 dates carry a different pairing despite the note design remaining unchanged.
The seven-year gap between the 2008 and 2013 printings is worth noting for date collectors — the intermediate years produced no dated examples in this series.
