Obverse description The Twelve Symbols national emblem of the Republic of China (officially in use 1913–1928), rendered in high relief at center, depicting a confronted dragon and phoenix flanking a ceremonial axe head (fu) and holding sacrificial cups (jue), the composition enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The design follows the heraldic conventions established for the early Republic and served as the principal state symbol during the Beiyang government period.
