Taurida National University, founded in Simferopol in 1918, spent a century as one of Ukraine's leading research institutions before Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 forced its effective exile. Ukrainian authorities relocated the university to Kyiv, an unprecedented administrative transplant for an institution of its size. This coin marks the centenary of that founding — from a city Ukraine no longer controls.
