Sydir Holubovych served as Prime Minister of the Ukrainian People's Republic for roughly four months in 1918, his government operating entirely under German military occupation following the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. When German forces withdrew after the November armistice, his Cabinet collapsed within days. The commemorative series of which this coin forms part has been the primary vehicle through which the Ukrainian state has rehabilitated figures from the short-lived UNR government — figures who spent most of the 20th century either dead at Soviet hands or written out of official history entirely.
