Mykola Strazhesko (1876–1952) was one of the Soviet Union's most decorated clinical cardiologists — a co-author of the 1935 classification of heart failure still referenced in modified form today. This coin was issued to mark the 130th anniversary of his birth. Strazhesko spent much of his career in Kyiv, which gave Ukraine legitimate claim to him despite his work being largely framed within Soviet medical institutions during his lifetime.
