Part of Ukraine's long-running wildlife conservation series, this miniature gold issue was produced at the Luhansk Mint — the same facility that handled the bulk of Ukraine's commemorative coin production before the city became inaccessible following the 2014 conflict. The Alpine marmot (*Marmota marmota*) had been introduced to the Carpathian mountains in the 1950s during Soviet-era wildlife management programs; it is not native to Ukraine.
