Kharkiv National Economic University was founded in 1930 as the Ukrainian Institute of National Economy, making the 2006 coin a 75th-anniversary issue. The institution trained Soviet-era planning economists before reinventing itself after independence as a conventional market-economics faculty — an awkward institutional pivot that the commemorative conveniently sidesteps.
