| Obverse description | Central field depicts an allegorical sculptural group comprising a male figure at left holding a staff, a female figure at right carrying a sheaf of wheat, and a winged child figure between them with arms raised, all flanking a shield bearing the Ukrainian trident (tryzub). Foliate branches frame the composition on either side. The Cyrillic legend УКРАЇНА arcs along the upper rim, with the date 1998 inscribed in the upper field; the denomination numeral 2 and the Cyrillic word ГРИВНІ appear in the lower field. |

| Reverse description | Central field depicts the façade of the Pedagogical Museum building in Kyiv, where the Ukrainian People's Republic declared independence, surmounted by a small flag. Two uniformed soldiers of the Ukrainian People's Republic era stand as sentinels at either side of the building, each bearing a rifle. The Cyrillic legend УКРАЇНСЬКА НАРОДНА РЕСПУБЛІКА curves along the upper rim. A four-line inscription in the lower field reads 80 РОКІВ / З ДНЯ ПРОГОЛОШЕННЯ / НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТІ / 22.01.1918, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the declaration of independence. |
