Reverse description The reverse presents a bold multi-line inscription occupying the central field, reading FRIEDRICH / WILHELM IV / KOENIG VON / PREUSSEN in raised block lettering. A finely rendered laurel branch decorates the lower portion of the field beneath the inscription, serving as an ornamental device. The circumferential legend ERWÄHLT ZUM KAISER DER DEUTSCHEN D. 28. MÄRZ 1849 arcs around the upper and lateral border, commemorating the election of Frederick William IV as Emperor of the Germans on 28 March 1849. A beaded border frames the entire design. The composition and lettering style are characteristic of mid-19th century German commemorative pattern coinage.
