| Obverse description | Conjoined laureate bust of Emperor Francis Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth facing right, occupying the central field. The Emperor is depicted with a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon, full beard and moustache, and a decorative military collar visible at the truncation; the Empress is shown with an elaborate diademed coiffure adorned with flowers. The peripheral legend, separated from the effigies by a finely beaded border, reads FRANC·IOS·I·D·G·AVSTR·IMP·ET·HVNG·REX·AP· * ELISABETHA·IMP·ET·REG, identifying both sovereigns by their full imperial and royal titles. The portrait style is neo-classical in execution, reflecting the high-relief medallic engraving traditions of the Vienna Mint. |
