Additional information

The Kuttenberg (Kutná Hora) mines issue belongs to a distinct category of Austrian commemorative coinage tied directly to Bohemia's silver-mining heritage. Kutná Hora had been the engine of Bohemian royal wealth from the 13th century onward, and by the Habsburg period its mines were largely exhausted — making this 1887 piece less a celebration of ongoing production than a nostalgic acknowledgment of what had built the empire's early fiscal foundations.

The XM prefix in the KM reference flags it as a non-circulating or special presentation strike, and surviving examples tend to show minimal wear for exactly that reason.
