Frederick August I — better known outside Saxony as Augustus the Strong — died on February 1, 1733, not 1717. This coin is almost certainly a memorial issue struck in 1717 to mark the death of a different Frederick August, or more likely commemorates an anniversary or dynastic event misattributed in the catalog field. The Albertinian line issued numerous commemorative groschen during this period tied to electoral milestones, and the 1717 date coincides with the bicentennial of the Reformation, which Saxon electors actively promoted through coinage.
