Obverse description Central field dominated by a large heraldic shield displaying the quartered arms of Burgundy and Brabant, supported by decorative mantling and flanked by lions rampant as supporters, all rendered in the bold Gothic heraldic style characteristic of Burgundian Low Countries coinage. The shield is surmounted by a ducal helmet with crest and lambrequins. A circular inner legend border separates the heraldic device from the outer marginal legend, which is struck in uncial Latin characters reading the full ducal titulature of Charles the Bold. The coin exhibits the irregular flan typical of hammered billon coinage of the period, with visible die wear at the margins.
