Obverse description The obverse displays the rampant lion of Holland passant to the left within a beaded inner circle, rendered in the vigorous Gothic style typical of early 15th-century Low Countries coinage. The lion is depicted with detailed mane, raised forepaw, and curling tail, its body filling the central field. A place name inscription appears in the exergue below a ground line, identifying the issuing territory. The surrounding legend, written in Gothic uncial characters, runs clockwise between the inner beaded circle and an outer beaded border.
