Reverse description A long cross pattée divides the field into four quadrants, each canton containing a heraldic device: two crowned lions passant and two fleurs-de-lis, alternating diagonally in a manner consistent with the Burgundian-Brabantine arms. At the centre of the cross is a lozenge-shaped escutcheon bearing the Brabant lion rampant. The arms of the cross feature double lines with decorative cusping at the terminals, exemplifying the refined Gothic die-cutting style of the mid-fifteenth century Low Countries mints. The circular legend in uncial Latin script reads: ✠ MONETA ⵓ NOVA ⵓ DUC ⵓ BRABANT, proclaiming this as the new coinage of the Duchy of Brabant. The hammered flan displays the characteristically uneven and clipped outline typical of medieval billon coinage.
