The Government of South Haiti was a short-lived separatist administration under Sylvain Salnave's opponents in the south of the country during the civil war of 1868–1870. Salnave had seized the presidency in 1867 and faced immediate armed resistance; the southern insurgents established their own governmental structures, including issuing their own paper currency, as a direct assertion of rival authority.
Notes from this issuer are genuinely rare. The political entity that produced them ceased to exist once Salnave was captured and executed in January 1870, and any unredeemed paper would have had uncertain status under the reunified government.
