Comments

The American Bank Note Company held a near-continuous relationship with Haitian currency production across most of the twentieth century, and this issue is squarely within that long run. What makes the 1980–1982 dating window notable is that it straddles the transfer of power from Jean-Claude Duvalier's early autocratic consolidation to his brief, cosmetic economic liberalization period — the Banque de la République itself operating under conditions where monetary policy was effectively subordinate to presidential household priorities.

The 2 Gourde denomination was a workhorse note in everyday Haitian commerce, subject to heavy wear. Clean survivors from this period are less common than the print runs would suggest.
