Haiti's 2 Gourde denomination had an unusually long run under the ABNC contract, with this 1971 date falling squarely within the Duvalier era — François had died in April of that year, leaving Jean-Claude to inherit both the presidency and a currency system entirely dependent on foreign printers. The Banque Nationale held no meaningful independence from the executive during this period; note issuance was effectively a political instrument.
ABNC's engraved intaglio work on the Haitian series is competent but unremarkable by the company's own standards. The watermark is the sole security feature — thin protection for a denomination that saw heavy everyday use in Port-au-Prince markets.
